Got an Everglades statue at the bottom of the garden?

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

The Everglades seem to have misplaced three bronze statues some decades ago. The works in question were nicked 30 years ago in the early 1980s, and while rumours of their locations have surfaced from time to time, they are still missing, and they would love to get them back.

Listen to Scott Pollock from Everglades on ABC Radio, or get in touch on 02 4784 1938.

Reading Day 2011

Friday, August 26th, 2011

Paint the Blue Read and Megalong Books are organising Reading Day 2011 in Leura on Thursday, September 1st.
The initiative aims to involve the Blue Mountains community in developing literacy and the love of stories for the children of the
area. The first Annual Reading Day was in 2009. This involved community stakeholders from Glenbrook to Blackheath organising local businesses to open their doors to local pre-schools and read them picture books. The success of this day has confirmed the longevity of the program.
Annual Reading Day in Leura Village was met with such enthusiasm from both the businesses and the children that it has been continued on a bi-monthly schedule.

Vodafone to Upgrade area network

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Long suffering users of the Vodafone network in the upper mountains may finally have something to cheer about.

Over the next few months, Vodafone plans upgrades to base stations in Katoomba (and Scenic World), Leura, Wentworth Falls, Mt Vic, Lawson and other areas. To get the most out of them, you will need the newest handsets (capable of using 850MHz e.g. iPhone 4), but even older phones should see a benefit with some capacity upgrades.
